The Potter's Hand, a blog
Edmonton Senior/Calgary Senior newspapers are featuring my blog, "The Potter's Hand" on their website.
If I get a following and enough comments, it's possible the blog will morph into a paid column in time.
The blog is about mental illness in all its aspects, and its impact on family, friends, the world, and the individual.
John Nash died this week.
He left a legacy of "A Beautiful Mind" and 86 years of living, for most of his life with the diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. He said that all is not suffering, and that is true. For many, mental illness is both an escape and a refuge. I can attest to that at various times in my life.
I've come out of the shadows.
Please visit "The Potter's Hand" and comment.
Thank you.
Brought to you by SpaceHive, Kenna's debut novel originally published by a traditional small press in 2012 and republished by Authors for a Cause in March 2015. A rollicking adventure of friendly alien bees and the vicious wasp General Vard, a 12-year-old boy and his Muslim buddy who must alone save the world, and the formidable SpaceHive...on which Jason is abducted by the alien attackers and taken to India where the final Battle takes place.
Also by The Insanity Machine, our adventure and journey with paranoid schizophrenia, including the latest research available at the time of writing.

3 SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS I FOLLOW AND WHY
Three Successful Bloggers I Follow
- Jeremy Shipp
- Allan Douglas
- John Stanton
WHY DO I FOLLOW JEREMY?
His blog is here. He wrote Attic Clowns and many pieces of cutting edge horror with a twisted humor and an odd sense of vulnerability.
I like Jeremy because his blog is called JeremyCShipp.wordpress.com and he's not following the "rules" just as I do on my blog, KennaMcKinnon.blogspot.com, not my name and a dedicated website. The reason I do that is because I have a home based transcription business that uses my name on a dedicated site. But Jeremy doesn't have to do that. He just is different and doesn't care what people may think, he isn't trying to be a big shot but he is.
He was short-listed for the Bram Stoker award and is a very young, very valuable human being.
He likes cats. I think I hurt his feelings once. He had a cat who sickened and died, and I thought he was joking. Perhaps he was. Perhaps he wasn't. I'm sorry.
He also featured an interview with me on his blog once when I was a new writer and my debut novel, SpaceHive, was released.
Jeremy does not have a lot of comments on his blog and I think he should have thousands of followers but I don't think he does. You should check him out and tell him Kenna sent you. He also sews and sells funny little felt creatures. Very different kind of guy and an excellent author.

He says things on his blog like this, “Let me tell you how you should live,” said the humans to each other, every day, forever.

WHY DO I FOLLOW ALLAN DOUGLAS?
Allan writes a blog called Random Thoughts. He is down to earth, a farmer type guy, and funny in a droll sort of way. He also has an alter ego, but I'll let you figure that out. I like him.
He's a mountain man, lives with his wife Marie on the side of the Great Smoky Mountains east of Kentucky, and has no children but two dogs.
He's interested in my little stories of where I grew up on a small family farm in northeastern British Columbia, Canada, and how it was 60+ years ago.
He also writes very well, and has published three books, one called "Random Thoughts" -- blog posts from yes, Random Thoughts.
You'll like him. He's chatty, pleasant, and funny, and is a man of many trades, a superb carpenter, and knows how to get rid of ants.

WHY DO I FOLLOW JOHN STANTON?
Because he's the founder of the Running Room here in Canada and I run. I've met John Stanton in person, shook his hand, bought his books "Running" and "Walking" and he autographed both. He is a hard core runner and a great inspiration. He shows up at almost every running event across Canada eventually, and I saw a photo of John waiting for the last runner of the day and he had his picture taken with her at a particular race.
He is my running hero. I like the Running Room, too. They have running clinics, lots of cool running gear, sponsor races, are knowledgeable about all aspects of running, and are friendly and approachable.
Check out John Stanton's Facebook page. He says things like,
Trying to get a buddy to run … instruction is great... but encouragement and support are better.
A reader replies that Running Room is her support. Me too.
Three Bloggers
I hope you find this list useful. I enjoy their sites and their personalities, and think you will, too.

RESULTS WITH TRIBERR
I joined Triberr and am very happy with the couple of members so far who've answered me. It looks great. I found this blog on one of the tribes and took the liberty of sharing it with my readers.
Detroit and Education, can they be saved? You'll recall Detroit declared bankruptcy recently, and education in North America is certainly subject to budget cuts across the board, here in Alberta being no exception.
I also pinned another blog from Cabin Goddess to Pinterest.
I'm going to be posting some infographics soon.
Maybe shake it up and twist it up, eh? Would my readers like that?
What would you like to see? What topics can I glean for you from this rich harvest I've found?

MY 7 (LUCKY NUMBER) FAVORITE BLOGS
I've researched 7 blogs you may find helpful or interesting:
- Brent Riggs' "Linky Blog" Brent wrote an EPIC eBook which is more than 400 pages long and is packed with advice about blogging, photography, and all sorts of wisdom he has accumulated in 15 years of social media experience. You can sign up for his newsletter and get the eBook for $9.99. His newsletter arrives in my mailbox regularly and is a fountain of helpful information for growing my blog. I recommend the "Linky Blog."
- Mail Chimp - sign up free. They'll help you set up newsletters and campaigns, have oodles of cool templates for your newsletters, will set up a button on your blog for new subscribers and much more. Also many apps for mobile phones.
- Absolute Write Water Cooler This is a site which has an international forum, a place for promotion and ideas for book promotion, many great forums, events, announcements, and free to sign up. You can research a site from here and get the group's opinion. I don't use it as often as I should.
- Inspired Gift Giving (IGG) with Marty Herald. Great resources to live life the best you can and be the very best you can be. I also subscribe to Marty's newsletter, which is chockful of helpful resources and suggestions.
- Live Write Thrive by C.S. Lakin, Author. A truly excellent newsletter and blog full of great ideas for writers and authors. I read Ms. Lakin's newsletter regularly and never fail to come away with great insights about writing. I don't know how she does it, but she is definitely brilliant at her craft of writing.
- Meredith Bell's uplifting eZine "Golden Eggs" with inspirational articles much like Chicken Soup for the Soul haha, get it here
- Shari Schindel's Notes from the Couch is amazing good news and support for those suffering from chronic illness. Check it out, this woman is a clinical psychologist who dispenses her unique brand of cheery support and advice on Twitter, Facebook, and her blog. Follow her and tell her Kenna sent you!
Please let me know how you like these resources and whether you've clicked on any of the links.
What would you like to see in future?
Have fun, peeps.

Problems Posting Blog
I confess I've had a problem lately keeping up with posting my blog daily.
Now I'm searching for topics for the newsletter.
I'm reposting the finale from my post of yesterday. What do you think?

- I don't know what appeals because I haven't been getting a lot of comments.
- I'm thinking about what to write for my newsletters but not a lot of my readers have signed up for the newsletter.
- Russia has dropped off in my readership but still remains second only to the US for readership.
- India is more interested but not to the extent I had hoped.
- I'm often searching in the dark for topics for my blog posts.
Now I'm searching for topics for the newsletter.
- I've put together a FREE PDF for all those who sign up but I'm waiting for permission from an author I've quoted before sending it. I want to send it with my first newsletter.
- The content should be relevant and interesting to my readers, but I haven't gotten any comments about what my readers would like to see.
I'm reposting the finale from my post of yesterday. What do you think?
Enjoy the summer, readers, and don't forget to sign up for my newsletter.
A little SURPRISE gift for those who sign up will be forthcoming in the next few days, featuring the latest news on Sasquatch with a link to the latest scientific research, and a sneak preview of my new young adult novel.
Watch for my newsletter in your mailbox.
Please add the email to your address book so it's not marked as SPAM. We wouldn't want that, would we? NO!!!
Learn about writing, about authors and conferences, about the latest scientific developments in the world of space science, paranormal activities, and lots more.
Remember Doomsday? Lots of 2012 movies. That's history now, like the Millennium. What exciting future do we have now that Earth has (once again) survived?
Home Movies?
- Do any of you have a home movie to share of something exciting and magical? Would you like to share it here? I love new content from new and exciting young minds.
Comments
- Comments, please? All will be answered and I'll link to your blog if you include the link.
